For the past two years, G.G.'s Book Club has celebrated book joy by hosting monthly virtual book chats open to the public and made available to any book lover out there. Its start was not in my "business plan" whatsoever, and thanks to three undergraduate students who simply wanted to read along with me, G.G.'s Book Club was born. The rest, as they say, is history.
Our book club now has book friends throughout Texas, from coast to coast, Canada, Great Britain, and Mexico. It is uniquely made up of readers who are educators, librarians, principals, reading specialists/literacy coaches, district office leaders, professors, students from all fields, consultants, attorneys, accountants, authors, business owners, stay-at-home moms/dads, stylists, grandparents, nurses/doctors, secretaries, retired folks, and the list goes on and on.
While our book club launched well before COVID, it was our book club that helped us push through the tough times and allowed us to laugh, cry, vent, search, reflect, connect with characters, and more importantly, connect with others.
To say that our book club is more than a book club is simply an understatement. We are truly a book family filled with book lovers and ALL are welcomed here.
22 For You Book Challenge
Knowing how much books have positively impacted our own book club family, it is just as important to advocate the many benefits that come along with reading (see the benefits of why you should read here). And because of this, I wanted to invite fellow book friends out there to celebrate some well-deserved self-love through joyous, affordable acts of self-care.
#22ForYouBookChallenge is my way of challenging you to take some time for yourself by simply reading some good reads for this year. This year-long challenge is open to anyone who loves to read, wants to read, or wants to start reading again (no purchase from our book club necessary).
Asides from pampering yourself with the pages of a good book, the goal for this challenge is to read at least 22 books of your choice by the end of the year. This means that the book you've been eyeing all this time can finally be picked up and enjoyed. You deserve it!
At the end of the year, 22 randomly selected readers will receive a complimentary book of their choice-no strings attached.
It's my way of celebrating YOU and spreading book joy to others one book at a time.
How does this book challenge work?
All you have to do is:
1. Share your latest read with others on Twitter and/or Instagram by taking a book snap and tagging us using #GGsBookClub #22ForYouBookChallenge.
2. Be sure to tell us what book you're on (e.g. Book #1 Guncle).
3. Share a little about the book (this helps us build our own book stacks).
I've been asked if BookToks count, and that's a hard yes for me! 😉
Here's an example post from one of our book friends below.
Who can join this book challenge?
Anyone can join at any time! The goal is simply to spread the importance of self-care while spreading some book joy (not to mention building book stacks through some great recommendations). So feel free to pass the word along to your fellow book friends!
Remember to tag us along the way using
What if you are a VIP Book Club Member?
In addition to our #22ForYouBookChallenge, we have an exclusive treat just for our VIP book club members (e.g. members who purchase a monthly VIP pass or book club box for the year). Think of this as a double entry to some more book treats! I'm seeing book club boxes, book club bucks, gift cards, Keurig coffee maker, and more in our future. 😉
To enter our VIP challenge, all you have to do is share the books you've been reading for the #22ForYouBookChallenge in our #22ForYouBookChallenge forum. That's it! It's THAT easy!
VIP book club members who participate will be randomly selected for some additional book treats at the end of the year.
Here's to self-care, "shelf-care", and lots of book joy with the best of book friends!
